Our hotel is in a wonderfully peaceful spot on the edge of a Berber village not far from an ancient camel trail to the Sahara. The delightful gardens are full of birds such as Moussier’s redstart and colourful butterflies. During our leisurely walks we come across some interesting wildlife and geology as well as a range of flowers including endemic lavenders, Periploca, spring bulbs such as tiny blue iris, large parasitic plants and the Argan tree. We visit Oued Massa lagoon – a small wetland on the Atlantic coast perfect for waders, birds of prey and perhaps flamingo and the rare (but ugly) bald ibis. We also visit the lighthouse at dramatic Cap Rhir. Our hotel is founded on strong environmental principles and offers delicious traditional style food with a French influence.
